•In Chinese mythology, archetypes (including the snake) are divine and symbolize unity&singularity:

-archetype=religion=sacred=spiritual healing system

-The concept of God is very close to the concept of self because we are the gods of our own existence

(Monotheistic religions&industrialization made us forget this)

The snake has three functions:

1.Mother Goddess&fertility cult

2.Guardian of wisdom

3.Connection to demonic/dark forces

1+2⇒In the East, the snake, like women, is sacred,but in the West,because women were degraded,the snake was also demonized.

Lilith connection

Lil=soul/breath/wind/air+poison+lust

The snake(one of the symbols of transformation)is linked to the wind.

The fear of women’s changeability comes from this.

Before patriarchy,women&the earth were sacred.

Afterward,men&the seed took over.

The mystery of the female body(giving birth,“dying”and not dying every month)→led to fear→associated with darkness.

⇒This shaped the woman-snake representation.

→The negative aspects of the mother archetype emerged due to male fears.

⇒Lilith(the snake)=the origin of the woman-devil connection.

Women who did not conform to moral norms&gender roles were demonized+reduced to objects of desire.

Thus,Lilith,who was equated with the snake,was split into two:one as the sacred mother,the other as the femme fatale.

This rupture made sacred union+the body through Lilith become fatal&shadowed.

Thus,the body=the repressed part of the ego=what we cannot accept in ourselves.

When the shadow takes its place⇒undesirable aspects are suppressed in the body(rejected→so the body itself is rejected).

!!In other words,the association between women and the body is no coincidence.

Shadow=personal unconscious=body=snake=woman.

Yet,what we reject is also part of us

(civilization demonizes it).

+To achieve individuation,we must reconcile with the shadow

⇒The snake represents wholeness.

Sexuality also offers all the paths to individuation

because desires are linked to what we are drawn to in the dark=the shadow.

To heal,we must also accept our inner demons.

⇒The snake,which was central in ancient times,is demonized in modern times.

Especially female sexuality is now restricted.

This is why sexuality is feared.

⇒Individuation itself is demonized.

Yet,sexuality is an effort+longing for the divine

(fantasy/action)→the union of opposites through sexuality.

The body=the part of the soul perceived through the five senses.

⇒Our life energy is being restricted[snake=cycle(3stages)],

so we cannot fully exist.

With the Year of the Snake,we must activate inner transformation.
